Ashley Madison is in dire a situation, now that two Canadian law firms filed a $578 million class-action lawsuit against them.

Both Canadian law firms, Strosberg LLP and Charney Lawyers and Sutts, formally filed the court case on Thursday on behalf of the 39 million Canadian members whose personal information was revealed by hackers of the Ashley Madison website.

The lawsuit, which was filed in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, also named Avid Life Media and Avid Dating Life, the companies which run the Ashley Madison website.

A plaintiff by the name of Eliot Shore joined the website after his wife’s death due to breast cancer. He claimed he never met other members of the site.

However, Ashley Madison is confident that the sensitive information revealed to the public cannot be used to prove their clients have had extramarital affairs.

The Canadian firms said that members of the site have already sought their help to protect their rights to privacy.

“They are outraged that failed to protect its users’ information. In many cases, the users paid an additional fee for the website to remove all of their user data, only to discover that the information was left intact and exposed,” attorney Ted Charney explained.

With the slogan, “Life is short. Have an Affair,” the internet's most notorious website for adulterers is facing another $5 million class-action lawsuit filed in Missouri last month. A female plaintiff claimed she had paid the website $19 to delete her personal information. However, the request was unsuccessful, according to the plaintiff.

Ashely Madison claimed that members could permanently delete their personal information from the system and charged an additional “paid-delete” fee of $19. According to sources, the company earned $2 million in 2014 alone for the added service.
