The National Basketball Association has teamed with Google’s YouTube for the launch of “Post Up the NBA” which will be on the new NBA Channel on YouTube. The new channel will allow fans to show off their skills by submitting video clips of their best basketball moves. It will also offer original NBA content for the remainder of the season.

Starting today, NBA fans can upload what they believe are their best basketball moves to the site and rate other videos posted by fans. The best “Post Up the NBA” videos submitted will be selected and compiled into a weekly highlight reel “NBA Top 10 on YoTube” and will be voiced by NBA personalities.

“By delivering a wide array of programming to YouTube, the NBA will be able to connect with its existing worldwide fan base and reach a vast new audience that is passionate about basketball,” said Chad Hurley, Co-Founder of YouTube.

As part of the deal the NBA will take part in YouTube’s “Claim Your Content” program. This features a content identification and a reporting system for user-uploaded videos, giving the league the ability to identify its copyrighted content. The NBA has the option to remove copyrighted content or they can leave video posted and share in the advertising revenue.

Google and the NBA are also working on a test project to syndicate NBA video content on Google’s AdSense network. The test will include both larger and small publishers from a variety of categories who will receive clips of NBA action.

“NBA fans will be able to interact and share their passion for the game by posting their ‘best moves,’” said NBA Commissioner David Stern. “YouTube’s popularity and wide-reaching community of users provides the NBA with another unique way to reach our fans."
