"All searching and no deciding makes the Web a dull place"

Microsoft must be really into Halloween this year, as they’ve relesaed two "Halloween oriented" commercials for their latest search engine, Bing.

The first advertisement, which we told you about earlier this week, features the latest craze for "tweens" everywhere a Vampire. The latest commercial, entitled  Haunted Hotel, was inspired by the great Stanley Kubrick film, The Shining. Below is the description that accompanies the video on YouTube:

"You know what they say- all searching and no deciding makes the Web a dull place. And a confusing one as well, from the look of things. Don’t get lost in the search overload maze: use Bing."

So, what did you think of the latest Bing commercial? Tell us what you think.

  1. I found the Shining Bing commercial rather amusing. That could be since I like the movie so much. The commercial must be doing its job, since there are lots of people discussing it.

I laughed at the commercial. I loved the movie and the take-off of it was very funny and amusing for sure. Thought it was very clever for a search engine commercial. At least I waited till it was over before I got up for a snack :-)

Hate to say it, but that commercial would actually make me try Bing. All they need to do is remove all mention of Microsoft.

Pass me the bucket please….I don’t feel well.

I use Bing about once a week to check on SEO results, mostly out of curiosity at this point.

The results on Bing are so arbitrary and contrary to other search engines that I can’t help but think it is the most useless search engine around.

The problems start with their indexing. All of my web pages are nicely linked to the other pages. Search engines easily index my whole site. So, what do Microsoft baffoons do? They visit pages that have not existed for more than six months (with proper “page not found” in place) at least as often as they visit current, properly linked pages.

I have not found anything good about Bing.

Bing is doing some hard core marketing and it has nettle enough to support all its claims and promises!

  7. I can’t remember the last time a Microsoft entity tried to be entertaining in an ad. The product benefits were pretty prominently featured here, but by showing a sense of humor about it, this comes off a lot less preachy than their usual fare. Well done.

I just saw the commercial on Dec. 1 and I must say, it seemed a little out of place to air that commercial this late after Halloween. It made no sense to me. Yank this one off the air and save it for next year.

What a beautiful commercial. I love the movie and they hit the name on the head with this parody and it’s something that actually advertises bing well instead of the worn out Geiko commercials that have nothing to do with product. Way to go Llyod.

At first I didn’t get the commercial, mainly because I never seen the movie before. I finally got the see The Shining a couple weeks ago and now I can laugh and thank Bing for being so clever
