Videos, Books & Photos on Google Maps

Google Maps adds location markers to search results

The search page of Google Maps now shows location markers. The markers can be in the form of videos from YouTube, books from Google Book search or geo-tagged photos from Panoramio.

For instance, the query search for google geyser, will return you something like this:

google-video-in-maps.jpg

Here you can find the blue placemark’s info window with a video from YouTube for direct playback. Google crawls this page as the description, tags or title of the video has the keywords in question as well as location information. There is not much clarity in the integration of the YouTube result page. If one have a close look at the screenshot, you can notice that there is not enough padding between thumbnail and description. Moreover, the thumbnail is redundant as the embedded video contains a preview still already and the embedded video looks too large for the info window.
