The computer desk and monitor that sit before me are propped up by a total of seven phonebooks.  I sometimes use an eighth for actual reference purposes.  But given that ratio, it seems like a wise move on the part of R.H. Donnelly, “a leading print and online local search company,” to expand its relationship with Yahoo Local.

“The agreement, which gives local businesses additional exposure on the Yahoo! Local and Yahoo! Maps sites, is part of R.H. Donnelley’s larger efforts to distribute local advertiser content across its own proprietary platforms as well as other leading local search sites,” according to a press release.

Donnelley, by the way, is the same company that spent around $345 million for Business.com; since the company’s not exactly floundering, this development could also be construed as a win for Yahoo Local.

And that makes all the press release-ese ring somewhat true.  Scott Regan, a senior director of Yahoo Local, stated, “The depth of our local offering has enabled us to be a partner of choice within this industry and we’re pleased to extend our partnership with R.H. Donnelley and bring its growing portfolio of local advertiser content to additional parts of Yahoo!”

Donnelley’s senior vice president of interactive operations returned the verbal nod, and with that, I’ll direct a written hat tip to Screenwerk’s Greg Sterling.
