Rumors recently began circulating that famed news anchor Katie Couric was set to be leaving ABC News for a stint on Yahoo. Sources at E! have now confirmed that the The Hollywood Reporter's exclusive announcement is correct.
ABC officials have not released any statements yet, but it is speculated that an announcement - including what Katie will be doing at Yahoo - will be made as early as Monday.
Couric first earned her spot as one of the world's most famous news anchors for her work on the Today show on NBC for a number of years. After leaving NBC, she went on to host the CBS Evening News for five years. A daily talk show ABC - Katie - began its first season in 2011, at which time Ms. Couric reportedly signed a $40 million contract with ABC for two seasons of Katie, and three years reporting for ABC News. However, Couric's special assignments' coverage has dwindled as of late.
This summer, Katie was rumored to be leaving ABC to accept a position with CNN, though she adamantly denied those claims later.
As for now, the fate of Katie's talk show is hanging in the balance - it has experienced mediocre ratings since first beginning, but sources say that it will not be canceled until December, at least, when the November sweeps ratings are announced. It is also unclear if Katie will be terminating her position at ABC News.
