Sumner Redstone, who controls Viacom and CBS, said Google’s YouTube Web site can live peacefully with companies like Viacom.

Bloomberg is reporting that Redstone said," The Google people are intelligent people, they can live peacefully with companies like Viacom. He mad the remarks at the Allen & Co. media conference in Sun Valley, Idaho. That is the same conference where Google CEO, Eric Schmidt was critical of Viacom saying the company was built on lawsuits.

Redstone said that Viacom has a long history of winning lawsuits they have filed but that Viacom viewed such actions as a last resort. "I hate to fight, I don’t like a battle,” Redstone said. “I would rather be a lover than a fighter.”

Redstone, 84, said he had declined to meet with Schmidt and Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who are attending the Allen & Co. conference. “They invited me to a royal dinner, but I have better things to do,” he said.

On the Viacom, YouTube lawsuit Redstone said, "I won’t let my content be pirated by people who won’t pay for it. CBS has a deal with YouTube. I have no problem with that because they are being paid. If the industry allows people to take content without paying for it, it wouldn’t be the death knell but it won’t be very good either."
