comScore today released it s monthly qSearch analysis of the search marketplace.

In September, Google Sites held its position among the core search rankings garnering 57 percent of U.S. searches and gaining half a share point over the previous month. Yahoo Sites were second grabbing 23.7 percent, followed by Microsoft Sites (10.3%), Ask Network (4.7 %) and Time Warner Network (4.3 percent).

Americans performed 9.4 billion searches in September at the major search engines, which was a 4 percent decline compared to August. According to comScore September is a slower month for search activity because it’s a 30-day month with a long holiday weekend. More than 5.3 billion core searches were done at Google Sites during the month and Yahoo Sites had 2.2 billion.

In the September 2007 look at the Top 50 properties globally where search activity is observed, Google Sites were at the top with 6.6 billion searches. Yahoo Sites had the number two spot with close to 2.4 billion searches, followed by Microsoft Sites with 999 million. Time Warner Network had 943 million and Fox Interactive Media had 492 million. Even with the decrease in overall search activity in September, Ask.com had a 10 percent gain compared to August.
