Twitter Establishes Status Blog

It’s a dark day for the "Down for everyone or just me?" site – Twitter, which must have sent it so much traffic, has now created its own Twitter Status blog.

Before yesterday, official posts about Twitter’s problems would be scattered across the main Twitter Blog, the Twitter Developer Blog, and the company’s own Twitter account.  This wasn’t a very organized approach.

Now, although it would still be better if outages didn’t occur so often, Twitter should at least be talking about them in one easy-to-find location.  Two posts appeared yesterday, and MG Siegler writes, "The blog, run using the Tumblr micro-blogging platform, will allow the company to provide quick updates when something breaks – or as the case may be, something is fixed."

And even if it seems odd that Twitter would use Tumblr as a way to air its problems, this will help ensure that the Twitter Status blog stays in working order when all else fails.

We’ve got less good news for Downforeveryoneorjustme.com; maybe Joost can step into Twitter’s downtime role.
