When is a Google license plate worth $35,000? Apparently never, as one ambitious eBayer has learned. An honest buddy who tells you something’s a bad idea? Priceless.

There’s still eight days remaining in the second attempt at selling a United Kingdom Google license plate (the only Google plate possible, it appears) for an inordinate price. The online auctioneer pictured the plate, spelled “GOO61E,” and listed the starting bid at 20,000 pounds.

When no serious bids were made by the close of the auction, the plate was relisted, this time for the discounted price of 15,000 pounds ($26,000). Bids so far since the second auction began on October 13? Zero.

Just under nine days left to bid.

(The crickets, they chirp with the deafening echo and memory of the Tell-Tale Heart The clock, it only provides a backbeat to the lonely symphony, with a tick-tock-tick-tock in polyrhythmic competition with the seller’s heart. He checks his connection. Still live. But the fate of his proffering is still uncertain. Quoth the eBay community, “Nevermore.”)

If that offering seems a bit steep for your budget, we suggest you try the Google Store, where a Google license plate frame can be acquired for $1.20. Or be creative with your Google plate by designing your own, here. Advice: “SRCH ME” may be a bad idea.
