Sirius Satellite Radio announced the release of their upcoming portable satellite radio device. It is called the Sirius S50, and is scheduled to come out in October.

It is designed for people “on the go”, and lets customers store up to 50 hours worth of content in the form of Sirius programming and/or MP3 and WMA files.

The S50 will cost about $360, but also requires a docking device to receive any signals. This device is not portable and costs another $100.

The S50 will allow the user to create digital music files from Sirius programming, which can then be transferred to other devices and burned to CDs.

But how will Sirius compete with rival XM Satellite Radio? XM has already had a portable player out for nearly a year, and it is only $300.

XM has also recently entered a partnership with Napster in which customers will be able to buy XM content through Napster’s online music service.
