Terra Lycos is reporting that the number 1 searched keyword on its search engine was Iraqi prisoner abuse photos that appeared first on 60 Minutes II. Lycos features a weekly top 50, and according to the braintrust of the search engine, this is the first time anything related to the Iraqi war has made the top spot.

Searches for these photos have beaten perennial favorites like the overexposed Paris Hilton and the overblown Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. The Lycos 50, which is overseen by Dean Tsouvalas, keeps a weekly tally of the most searched items done by Lycos.

Speaking to NewsFactor Network, Tsouvalas had this to say, “we were taken aback this week by the number of searches for Iraq war and the photos of the prisoners at the prison. The numbers were so substantial they actually moved straight to the top of list. The last time interest in Iraq was this high was when the war started last year – and then it only hit No. 2. It has never reached No. 1, until this week.”

Although the Janet Jackson Super Bowl remain Lycos’ most searched image, this marks the first time that information stemming from the Iraqi war has reached the top of the Lycos 50.
