The Hubble Space Telescope celebrates its 15th year of service to the world this week as exhibits all over the country are unveiled to celebrate this device’s contributions to man’s understanding of the universe.

The telescope has provided hundreds of thousands of images over the last decade and a half including the Eagle Nebula and Spiral Galaxy M51. These two images are considered some of the most brilliant photos taken which unbelievable resolution and detail.

The Hubble initially experienced problems with its mirror but after a space shuttle mission to correct the situation, NASA began receiving images sharper than any previous photos and Hubble’s true brilliance was realized.

The future of the magnificent telescope remains up in the air though to due to budget costs although the telescope is reaching the end of it’s projected life span anyway.
