Coca-Cola posted a rise in fourth-quarter earnings helped by fluctuations in currency as well as a recent boost in soft drink demand.

The Company reported fourth quarter earnings per share of $0.50, compared with $0.38 for the prior year fourth quarter. Reported earnings per share for the full year were $2.00, compared with prior year earnings of $1.77 per share.

Neville Isdell, chairman and CEO, commented, “We are not satisfied with our performance in 2004. By most measures, we did not perform to our potential or the expectations of our shareowners. On the whole, I believe 2004 will be remembered as the beginning of an important transition for The Coca-Cola Company. We are making the necessary course correction that will enable us to fulfill our enormous potential, accelerate growth and create value for shareowners over the long-term.”

Coca-Cola’s unit case volume went up 2% overall, but fell 1% in North America, its largest market.
