BookMarklets, like their older siblings BookMarks, give you shortcuts to web content. Bookmarklets are different though because they are actually “JavaScript programs in URL form” that allow you a quicker means of searching.

Find available BookMarklets here.

Once you have the Google Search bookmarklet installed highlight some text. Then click the Google Search favorite tab and your bookmarklet will automatically search for the text you had highlighted.

There are also Yahoo bookmarklets, as well as Wikipedia and “Show Occurrences of Word” which will give you “a total count of the occurrences of that word. It is useful for spotting keywords in a document.”

Their Advanced Search Bookmarklets should prove especially useful to those involved in SEO.

Install the Google Cache of Current Page bookmarklet shows you whatever URL your browser’s on at the time, allowing you to see right away if Google’s picked up recent changes or even indexed the page at all.

The All Indexed From Site bookmarklet will show all the pages indexed in Google for the url your browser’s pointed to.

There’s also a Google Backlinks bookmarklet, as well as a Yahoo Find Backlinks bookmarklet (which is the only Advanced Search bookmarklet for Yahoo, though they do have some for AllTheWeb and AltaVista).
