A New Jersey firm now offers three online courses in ASP.NET programming, delivered through a browser.

TeachMeIT recently added Programming with Microsoft ASP to its online curriculum. These courses are aimed at new ASP.NET programmers and those moving to ASP.NET from ASP or Visual Basic to the platform.

Course durations run from 2.5 to 3 hours. They require Macromedia Flash and Shockwave on the software side. Students should already know HTML or DHTML; knowledge of a scripting language and OOP concepts will help as well.

Part one of the course looks at the fundamentals of ASP.NET. It discusses ASP.NET web pages and the addition of simple and advanced controls to them. The second part talks about maintaining state, developing and securing applications, and separating application logic from the presentation layer.

Part three gets into errors and debugging, along with working with databases and XML, and setting up a web service. Each course has a listed price of $49.

One issue to consider with ASP.NET is its destined environment. Wayne Klapwyk suggested that the biggest corporate website projects may not be the best fit for ASP.NET:

Chiefly, ASP sites are often not well suited to very high volumes of traffic due to comparatively large code requirements, numerous browser compatibilities issues and the requirement of Microsoft specific tools to serve up ASP pages

This may sound like an argument against using the ASP language in the design and development of an Internet presence. In actuality, the ASP language is extremely well suited to quickly develop most small and medium sized personal and corporate web sites.
