Apple Schedules Fun For Next Tuesday

Get the WebProNews Newsletter:

A select group of invitees will visit Apple’s Cupertino campus on February 28th to see what is new from the company.

Could it be a new video iPod, maybe even one that contains some of the features speculated about by pundit Robert X. Cringely? Will there be new Macs, containing Intel chips and new versions of software like Apple’s Front Row?

Think Secret posted a copy of Apple’s invitation, which was emailed to various media types. “Come see some fun new Apple products,” the headline reads on the invite.

Unlike a fake invite sent out the previous week, this one has been confirmed as legitimate. The phony event claimed to pair Steve Jobs and U2 frontman Bono, but was quickly proven a hoax.

Cynthia Brumfield at IP Democracy likened Apple’s media manipulation to that of the classic master of suspense, director Alfred Hitchcock:

Alfred Hitchcock once said that the key to his success was “Always make the audience suffer as much as possible.” Apple’s key to media success: always put the press through as much suspense as possible.
