The high definition DVD battles have raged for months without end. Warriors Sony and Toshiba thrash about like two steel-spurred cocks, fighting to the death. Electronics giant Samsung may have the answer. They plan on creating a DVD player that will support both formats, much to the benefit of consumers.

In a recent interview for the Financial Time Deutschland, Choi Gee-Sung, head of the consumer electronics division said, “”We would welcome a unified standard but if this doesn’t come, which looks likely, we’ll bring a unified solution to market.

“It won’t be simple but you’ll see our solution in the coming year. Consumers will be too confused otherwise.”

This should be welcome news to many consumers as the war continues between HD-DVD by Toshiba and Blu-Ray from Sony. Many companies of all types have signed on for one or the other. The primary market will certainly be the home entertainment side but this won’t solve the problem, at least not initially, of the PC issues. As many PC manufacturers have signed on with one or the other, software manufacturers may get annoyed when forced to be multiple packages of the same program.
