In China Search, It’s The Year Of The Dog
The Chinese portal company Sohu wants a spokesdog for its search engine, Sogou, and will pay a salary and dog-oriented benefits to the winner.
Woof! Who let the dogs out? Dog owners in China have been encouraged to post submissions of their pooch to Sohu for a chance at a 100,000 yuan (about $12,392 USD) salary, the Pacific Epoch reported.
The lucky dog selected as spokesdog for Sogou will come from the web pages of dogs containing the phrase, “I’m spokesdog of Sogou; I was born for search!” Sogou’s site crawlers will collect pup web pages from December 30 through January 20, 2006.
Stars do get their perks, and the Sogou dog will pick up a few beyond its salary. The spokesdog gets dog food, a new dog house, and pet schooling.
And one more perk: the dog will have a chance to publish its own recorded music, the report said. (Author’s note – I have listened to a CD created by some Nashville session musicians, where the constant snoring of a dog in the key of A forms the center of the song. Call it bulldog rock, I guess.)
