WebProNews had a few words with Huffington Post Chief Revenue Officer James Smith recently, and talked a little bit about what makes the social news site so popular. Why do you think the Huffington Post is so popular? Share your thoughts.
Smith says the Huffington Post currently logs over a million comments a month. He says the success comes from a community that is actively engaged and involved.
So how do you get people so engaged and involved. A few things Smith mentions as types of metrics that attract people to want to "dive into" content include:
- polls
- images
- most popular stats (showing popular news stories/ how many comments)
There's certainly more to it than that (and he discusses some more in the above clip), but these things are good ways to spark new interest.
