AOL has launched a beta version of BlueString, a free Web site that allows users to upload, store, manage, create and share digital media.
BlueString allows users to manually or automatically upload photos, videos and music to create rich multimedia shows to share with family and friends. A feature called "String it" allows several people to add media assets to one show.
The site offers up to 5GB of online storage and sometime this fall users will be able to link directly to video clips and photos from a variety of third party media sharing sites without having to upload or move them. Any user with an active email address from any provider can register to use the site.
"Consumers are trying to combine and work with digital media that is scattered across their PCs, various desktop applications and several online services," said Kevin Conroy, Executive Vice President, AOL.
"BlueString offers a simple, one-stop solution for personal media storage and management. For the first time, we're making it possible for people to access, combine and share all of their personal media from a single application for free."
