Viacom, Google A Father-Son Fight?

Once new Google employee Philippe Dauman Jr wraps up his summer vacation and takes up his new post, Googlers may want to keep any negative opinions of Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman Sr to themselves.

Viacom, Google A Father-Son Fight?
Valleywag's party consultant Megan McCarthy managed to notice a great little tidbit on the Wall Street Journal's Law Blog. The Dauman family Thanksgiving may be a little strained as the Viacom-Google lawsuit pits offspring against patriarch, in a way:
Dauman’s dad, Philippe Dauman, is none other the CEO of Viacom, which earlier this year lodged a $1 billion copyright infringement lawsuit against the Internet titan.

That Philippe Jr. would now be working for Google has proved a source of amusement for some in the entertainment industry. The elder Philippe (Yale, Columbia Law), though, is presumably proud of his boy. Philippe Jr. also graduated from Yale, but in May one-upped pops by snagging a Columbia MBA alongside his Columbia JD, says a person familiar with his situation, who notes he was inundated with job offers. Despite the public tiff between Viacom and Google, his dad was encouraging of the Google move, the person said.

Pere Dauman thinks YouTube, Google's video sharing site and lawsuit magnet, willfully infringes copyrights and profits from the illegal uploading by its users. Google's position has been a mantra of repeating its responsibilities under the DMCA for taking down such content.

Let's hope someone slips a camera phone into the Dauman enclave for the holidays. The specter of flying gravy tureens and crystal glasses would be more interesting to see than the Detroit Lions playing on Thanksgiving.
