Clicking on a link to a listing in Google Base doesn't go directly to the site with the listing, but to a Google Base jump page instead.
Google has made a tweak to Google Base and where people end up after clicking on a link in the search results. Oodle.com noted a mention in the latest issue of Classified Intelligence of the change.
Instead of going directly to an automotive listing from the search results, the searcher ends up on a jump page instead. The Google-generated page contains a link to the site hosting the results, along with all the listing information.
Oodle thinks this may be an example of Google pushing the envelope:
Oodle and other vertical search engines (SimplyHired, Indeed) made an explicit decision not to do this. We follow traditional search engine etiquette and send traffic directly to the listing from the results page.
Google Base is one component in what could be a far-reaching strategy by the search advertising company into the classifieds field. Other developing products like Google Automat and Google Payments point to the company ending up in a showdown with eBay for the future of online person-to-person marketplaces.
