The fastest growing country code top-level domain is .ME. The .ME Registry just announced that the extension has hit a quarter million domains registered.
"This is the kind of reaction we always knew we would elicit with dot-ME," says Predrag Lesic, executive director of the .ME Registry. "Dot-ME has become an Internet phenomenon."
The Two-hundred fifty thousandth domain registered was done so through GoDaddy and was JamesCrocker.Me. James Crocker doesn't appear to have done anything with the domain yet, but the sample that is already set up shows the personalized atmosphere that the ".ME" extension is intended for:

The .ME Registry was chosen by the government of Montenegro to operate the new .ME domain name extension. According to Domain.me, ".ME is expected to be utilized as both a personalized Web address and as a catchy business marketing tool around the world, initially in English followed by localized and standards compliant International Domain Names in, for example, Spanish, Italian and Montenegrin."
Over 48,000 applications were received to participate in the current online auction of .ME domains which ends in a few days. Another auction is scheduled to begin on NameJet.com on June 5th.
