Jobs Unveils iPhone 3G
By Jason Lee Miller - Mon, 06/09/2008 - 14:59
Faster, Cheaper, and Worldwide
As widely predicted, Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the new incarnation of the iPhone, iPhone 3G, at the Worldwide Developer's Conference in San Francisco. According to the new features Job listed, Apple listened quite a bit to user feedback.
In addition to hardware design features like making it thinner and making the headphone jack flush with the body, the new iPhone will download considerably faster. In comparison to downloads on the EDGE network, the 3G iPhone can bring up Webpages in significantly less time. A photo-heavy National Geographic page, for example downloaded in 21 second on 3G while an EDGE download of the same page took a while longer.
Jobs claimed that Apple's 3G phone was 36 times faster than competitor 3G phones from Nokia and Treo. Released in 22 countries on July 11, the iPhone 3G will cost $199 for 8 GB, and $299 for 16 GB. Besides Venezuela and China, it will be available in total in 70 countries.
Another improvement is to location services. Jobs demoed the satellite tracking of an iPhone as it traveled down San Francisco's Lombard Street.

Complaint to Apple!
If you are a current Iphone user, complain to Apple about not having an upgrade path to the new phone by calling:
1-800-MY-APPLE
PLEASE BE NICE! Just ask to register a complaint about the fact that there is no upgrade path from current iphone users to the new iphone.
Maybe if enough people call something will happen
I got "Ipowned" :(
I just bought one a month ago, paid full price, received a very "buggy" phone.
Now come to find out that the new version is coming out in a few weeks, with the problems I have fixed, at half the price, and no upgrade path from my phone to this one.
I guess this is apple's way of doing business.
I've been Ipowned :(
Finally! An actually
Finally! An actually affordable iPhone. I wonder how they will respectfully adjust the prices of the current iPod models. I mean, who would pay $100 more for an iPod touch? That will be interesting to see how Apple will play this one out.
As for the new iPhone, I am very glad that it is 3G. I think for people who were waiting for the new iPhone, they will also agree with me that it was well worth the wait. Maybe I'll buy one...
