Yahoo Takes Fantasy Sports To TV

A new service from Yahoo has been aimed at sports fans with televisions hooked to their computers. It's called Yahoo Sports for TV.

What's even more special than watching your favorite team's quarterback overthrow another receiver for an INT (hi Eli Manning)? Watching your fantasy matchup turn into a stomach-churning rout at the same time, of course.

Yahoo made this possible with the debut of a new product. Yahoo Sports for TV works through certain Windows PCs - Media Center Edition, Vista Home Premium, or Vista Ultimate. It's available now for Yahoo Fantasy Baseball, with the Football version slated for the coming season.

Sports-beleaguered Yahoo intern Sandy Tam wrote about the service on the official Yahoo blog. Her account of Yahoo Sports for TV included a video of some Yahoos demonstrating the merging of watching baseball and tracking fantasy information all on the TV screen.

The football edition of the service will have some advanced features when it starts in the fall. One of those should be SmackTalk, a way to send messages to other members of your fantasy league through Yahoo Sports for TV. No one should have to wait to hear encouragement from the rest of the league when his starting fantasy running back fumbles at the 1 yard line.
