Google Touches On Spam And Virus Protection
Webinar approaching
Is Google feeling a little guilty about its Gmail outage? Or perhaps whoever's responsible for the company's main blog is just bowing to the slow news day. Regardless, Google's giving users a heads up regarding spam and virus problems.
Amanda Kleha posted a quick paragraph and link on the Official Google Blog, and on the Official Google Enterprise Blog, continued, "In July, our Postini datacenters saw the biggest volume of email virus attacks so far in 2008, with a peak of nearly 10 million messages on July 24."
Spoofed UPS package-tracking messages were one source of trouble, with messages claiming to be CNN newsletters creating another set of issues.
Yet Google did its best to protect people every time. "Our zero-hour virus protection technology first started catching these emails on July 20," Kleha wrote in regards to the UPS spam. As for the CNN stuff, "we implemented a filter to stop these elusive viruses and voila! -- all of our 14 million business users were protected."
Anyone wanting to learn more about related issues has been invited to attend a webinar called "How spam is changing your inbox, and what to do about it." It'll be held this Friday at 10 AM PDT. Try not to tease the Google reps about that Gmail hiccup if you participate.

Tough to complain
It's really tough to complain about anything with Gmail as the previous commenter noted. Its free, and offers a whack of built in bonuses and associated services. With the kind of value added services they add, its a wonder they dont charge money for the service.
Google is doing its best
I think google is doing its best to keep spam out of our gmail boxes, but are they also helping to find the people who send these emails ? I think it is in the worlds interest to get these spam mails at the source where they are send.
google mail problems
maybe those of you complaining about googles mail problems should ask for your money back! hold on, I just remembered its a FREE service. If they withdrew it THEN you would have something to complain about.......
