Beginning today Facebook users will be able to choose which friends can view details of their profiles, a new privacy feature to give users more control over how they share their personal information.
Facebook members will also be able to make their information available to their friend's friends. In December Facebook allowed users to organize friends into groups. Users could send messages to the entire group.
Members can use the groups to choose how much personal information their friends can access. They will have the option of blocking photo albums and other personal details from other users.
Facebook also has plans to introduce an online chat tool in a few weeks. Users will be able to see when their friends are logged on and can chat with them. Facebook chat will be displayed as a small icon on the bottom of the Web browser, that when clicked, will open a chat window. Chats will be saved for 90 days, but users will be able to erase them before then.
