As far as datacenters are concerned, Google and Microsoft have been in the spotlight for the past few months.  Yahoo's not ignoring the subject, though, and did, in fact, recently open a datacenter of its own in Quincy, Washington.

The grand ceremony was held earlier this month, and Yahoo's now announcing that the datacenter is "open for business."  On Yodel Anecdotal, KC Mares writes, "We take great care to find the right combination of fiber connectivity, network availability, low cost of power, land and operations, and a skilled workforce to operate a state-of-the-art facility when looking for new data center locations."

Mares goes on to note that the new datacenter is "sourced by 99% renewable power," and although you have to wonder about the last one percent, 99 percent renewable is a pretty big accomplishment.  Furthermore, after Yahoo invests in some carbon offsets, the Quincy operation should leave absolutely no carbon footprint.

But despite the cheery blog post, not everything's ideal in Washington.  Rich Miller reports that Yahoo might not receive some tax breaks it expected, and even if the company isn't backing out of its new datacenter, it may not make a planned expansion.
