Google may or may not be good with old people, but as news of an age discrimination lawsuit spreads, the search giant has made a new blog post to remind people about its other steps towards “corporate equality.”
Some might call this an obvious diversion, while others will see the two issues as unrelated. In any event, Google is “really pleased about our strong performance in the U.S. Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Corporate Equality Index for the second year in a row.”
The HRC supports people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender, and in its index, the organization gave Google a 100 - the highest possible score. It also noted that Google holds the number one position on Fortune’s list of the 100 best places to work. “A+”s all around, eh?
Well, except for the age thing. It seems odd that Google’s Gaygler-oriented post would so quickly follow a development in the age discrimination suit and yet not mention it. So far as I can tell, there’s not even an implicit rebuff - both Megan Smith and Nicholas Creswell, who made the blog post, are young people.
Ah, well. Google has a lot going on, and maybe we can’t expect it to take care of everything at once.
