Google & Firefox: Their Secret Fling

Even if Google and Firefox aren't in cahoots concerning a web browser, they have been getting pretty cozy with one another.

Mozilla's much anticipated release of Firefox was released on Tuesday. According to Mitchell Baker, president of the nonprofit Mozilla Foundation, in only two days, an estimated 2.5 million people had downloaded the Web browser.Google.com took center stage for the unveiling process of the browser, being the default home page seen by millions.

Some rumors had been circulating about a partnership between the two companies for developing a Google web browser. Both sides have officially denied this, but the ties seem to be only getting stronger. This week Mozilla has outlined plans to work closer with desktop search providers to help them develop similar capabilities for future Firefox upgrades. Interesting doesn't Google have some sort of desktop search?

Baker would not say whether there is a financial relationship between Mozilla and Google. However typically Google pays its partners a share of revenue from search related advertising, according to ZDNet.co.uk.
