China YouTV Corp. and HuaJu NetMedia have signed an agreement to set up a joint venture in China and form a video sharing Web site business. Hoping to capitalize on the success that YouTube has had they want to position themselves as the YouTube of China.

CEO: Google Is Like Your Ex – Cute, But Insane

Well, he didn’t put it exactly like that, but Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer didn’t pull any punches in regard to Google during an appearance in front of 450 Stanford University business and engineering students yesterday. In addition to calling Google’s employee growth-rate "insane," and its non-search products "cute," Ballmer implied Google was a one-trick pony.

(And we’ll have some class and not mention the shellacking Stanford took in the NCAA tournament by Louisville. Oops, guess we just kind of did.)

Labels to Sell Digital Music Directly to Fans

IODA, a digital distribution company for the independent music community, has announced a new service, which will allow independent record, labels to sell digital music directly to consumers on label and artist Web sites.

The company has partnered with DownloadCentric to offer the service to its label, distributor and artist clients. They will use the platform to create customized storefronts, which will facilitate direct-to- fan sales.

Deleted YouTube Videos Still Available

When it receives a complaint from content owners regarding copyrighted videos, YouTube is usually pretty quick to comply with regulations and pull down the infringing clips. As it turns out, those clips may still be available for viewing and/or download on YouTube’s servers.

The news doesn’t seem to be getting any better for YouTube.

According to new data from TNS Media Intelligence, Internet phone company Vonage spent over $185 million on display ads in 2006, outspending competitors Verizon Communications and display ad giant Netflix.

The budget share for display and classified ads will remain unchanged through 2011, with paid search gaining ground and rich media along with video increasing according to eMarketer senior analyst David Hallerman.

Skype Thinks Twice The Price Is Nice

EBay’s Skype may be taking a page out of Microsoft’s playbook. The VoIP company released a new product yesterday that seems awfully familiar, at twice the price.

The beta version of Skype Prime, part of Skype 3.1 for Windows, a widget that allows Skype users to become online, on-call experts.

For example, if you’re a business consultant of some kind, you can set up a hotline for people to call you for advice and guidance in your area of expertise. Experts can charge per minute or per call.
