While, we will no doubt see a flood of apps for the platform rush in, it is smart for Google to get theirs out there immediately, as Windows Phone 7 devices come with Bing as the default search option (via a hard key).

Google Exec Commits To More Huge Acquisitions

Google’s legendary war chest may finally be put to use.  Although there’s almost no way the company will spend all its cash, a vice president of corporate development did indicate in a recent interview that it’s looking to make one or more gigantic acquisitions.

AOL Launches New Video Program

 AOL said today it has launched an original video program that will be featured on its recently relaunched homepage.

AOL’s “The One,” launches today and was created in partnership with Next New Networks, a provider of original video content.

Investors Show Support For Yahoo-AOL Deal

Starting late yesterday, a fresh round of rumors began to circulate about a possible Yahoo-AOL deal.  Then other sources and experts denied that anything’s taking place.  But investors still seem to be excited about the concept, sending Yahoo and AOL’s stocks up a significant amount in early trading.

Yelp Launches Windows Phone 7 App

Now that Windows Phone 7 devices are available in the U.S. we can expect that apps to start flooding in. Yelp announced its new Windows Phone 7 app today, available in Europe and the U.S. 

The app lets users use location-aware technology to find restaurants, shops, bars, etc. and read reviews for businesses, browse photos, map business locations, and get directions. 

News Corp. On MySpace: “Current Losses Are Not Acceptable”

To be clear: we don’t mean to spread rumors or alarm anyone.  But MySpace employees might want to consider setting aside some extra money and updating their LinkedIn profiles, as one News Corp. exec hinted during an earnings call that a drastic cost-cutting action of sorts may occur.

A large round (or two) of layoffs is one possibility.  A sale or even shutdown of MySpace doesn’t seem to be out of the question, either.  News Corp. COO Chase Carey made the situation sound quite serious.

Amazon To Purchase Diapers.com For $545 Million

Amazon.com said today it has reached an agreement to acquire Quidsi, which operates Diapers.com and Soap.com.

Under the terms of the deal, which was approved by Quidsi’s stockholders, Amazon will purchase all outstanding shares of Quidsi for $500 million in cash, and also take on $45 million in debt.  The acquisition is set to close next month.

"I’m not sure which is more unpleasant–changing diapers, paying too much for them, or running out of them," said Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO of Amazon.com.

 

Official British Monarchy Page Launches On Facebook

Facebook is far past the point where it’s an "ooh, look at that" moment every time an important person joins the site.  Another celebrity here or there hardly matters when it’s got more than 500 million users.  Still, it may be worth noting that an official British Monarchy Page has launched.

Posts on the Page actually date back to mid-September, but today marks the Page’s formal debut.  It’s gotten off to a great start, too, already collecting "likes" from 65,536 individuals.

Google Offers Free Inflight Wi-Fi For The Holidays

The Google Chrome browser team said today it has partnered with AirTran, Delta and Virgin America, to provide free Gogo Inflight Internet to travelers during the holiday season.

People flying on AirTran, Delta or Virgin America between November 20, 2010 and January 2, 2011 will have free Wi-Fi on any of their domestic flights.
