Disney.com has announced that it has purchased Boulder-based Kerpoof Studios, a developer of online tools that allows children to create artwork, write short stories and make short movies.

Disney To Offer Full-Length Movies Online

Disney.com said today the site will stream full-length movies online for the first time in the company’s history.

The films will first be broadcast on ABC as part of the network’s weekly Wonderful World of Disney feature on Saturday nights throughout the summer. The full-length movies will be available for free streaming the week after they air on the network.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is now on Google Earth in 3D allowing users to virtually tour Disney’s four theme parks and its 22 hotels and resorts.

There are 1,500 3D points of interest in the virtual tour of Disney. Users can click on images to get more information about an attraction, purchase tickets, make reservations and map out their vacation.

TiVo said today that its subscribers will soon be able to download Disney movies through their DVRs directly from their TVs.

Titles will be available to rent through an agreement with Disney and CinemaNow. The movies will be available for a 24-hour rental period in standard definition, some titles will also be available in high definition.

Disney-ABC Television Group will begin testing next week of running multiple ads with longform online videos on ABC.com.

"It would be premature for us to say people only want one ad," Albert Cheng, executive vp digital media at DATG, told THR. "It’s a likely sort of thinking, but we want to push it a little bit to see how it would go."

Disney Online is continuing to have a solid performance, breaking all previous traffic records for the first quarter of 2008, with an average of 27.3 million unique visitors per month according to comScore Media Metrix.

Walt Disney has announced that Disney and Pixar will make eight new 3D animated films in the next four years.

With the exception of "Wall*E", a robot love story and the hand drawn "Princess and the Frog", all the movies will be in digital 3D the studio said. All the 3D films will also be available in a 2D format.

Disney has made a projected $123 million in sales of video via Apple iTunes.

The estimate comes from comments that Disney CEO Bob Iger made at the Digital Hollywood Media Summit. Iger said Disney has sold 4 million movies and 40 to 50 million videos through iTunes, since it made content available on the service in 2006.
