While the announcement was little more than a prerendered trailer, it set off a wave of excitement that’s rarely seen anymore these days. Since then, we’ve not seen much of it, but the upcoming Japanese PS4 launch changes that.

Sony shared a new Kingdom Hearts trailer this morning ahead of the Japanese PS4 launch in February. While the game is not due out until at least 2015, Sony and Square have to get the hype train started early. After all, the promise of a new Kingdom Hearts game a year from now is a sure fire way to nab early PS4 sales from hardcore gamers.

Unfortunately, Square Enix saw fit to reuse old footage for this latest trailer. There might be some new stuff here, but it looks to mostly use footage that we saw back from E3. They could have at least used some of the in-game footage shown off at a Disney convention late last year.

Oh well, at least we know that Kingdom Hearts III is in development. That’s pretty much all fans need to know at this point. To hold them over, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix will be hitting the PS3 this year with HD versions of Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded.
