Google has launched Google Analytics for Mobile Apps. The reports that are available as a result of last week’s expansion of mobile reporting features are now available for mobile apps as well.

PayPal has opened its global payments platform called PayPal X, providing new APIs, a new developer portal, and some introductory services pricing to help developers take advantage of PayPal X to build businesses.

"The whole world is going digital, and the future of how we communicate, how we get information, and even how we transact, is in the hands of developers," said PayPal President Scott Thompson. "The network is the platform on which the potential of digital money will be fully realized."

Facebook has released a developer "roadmap," which it says will simplify communication for users and developers, improve app discovery and engagement, and provide developers with more comprehensive tools for building or expanding their business with Facebook.

Adobe and Salesforce.com have partnered to launch the Adobe Flash Builder for force.com, which Adobe says increases developer productivity for creating rich Internet applications in the cloud. The product can be used to enhance existing Salesforce CRM implementations and custom-built Force.com apps, or build new apps altogether.

Is it better to have tons of customers, or some who are willing to spend a little more?  Well, whatever its corporate stance, it seems that Google has found its way into the second category with Android, according to one company’s findings.

WhitePages specializes in exactly what you might expect: phone-related apps.  More specifically, think phone directories and caller ID.  And WhitePages peddles its apps to both Android and iPhone users, so it has a decent understanding of both markets.

Google has released a new Website Optimizer Experiment Management API. This means developers can utilize Website Optimizer for their own applications and experiments.

Website Optimizer is a tool from Google that allows users to perform simple A/B and multivariate testing on websites to see what works and what doesn’t. WebProNews discussed the tool at length earlier this year. Here is a webinar video that will familiarize you with it as well:

Facebook has launched the Create Application API, which is aimed at making it easier for users to integrate Facebook on their websites and widgets.

Google has launched what it refers to as a "fast and versatile new system-wide search experience" for Android. it’s called the Quick Search Box or QSB and it was announced for developers back in September. It appears on the home screen of Android devices.

Update: WebProNews received a call from David Swain, Communications for  Facebook Platform, who wanted to give the company’s side of this story. Basically, he says that they view the move as actually maintaining developers’ business models (rather than threatening them), so that advertising can continue to be successful and users will actually trust it.

Yahoo has released an API for Meme, the company’s microblogging service, which is still in beta. If you’re not familiar with Meme, it’s kind of like Yahoo’s version of Twitter, minus the enormous amount of hype.

Six Apart, the creators of TypePad, have launched the TypePad Platform, a set of APIs that allow developers, bloggers, publishers, and corporations use the TypePad "cloud".

Facebook has announced the launch of the Facebook Connect Wizard and Playground. These are tools that are designed to make it easier for website owners to integrate Facebook Connect into their sites.

Facebook has announced translations for Facebook Connect, which a spokesperson for the company tells WebProNews, "simplifies and streamlines the process of translating a website into any of the more than 65 different languages Facebook currently supports."

"By opening the same framework Facebook used to translate its own site, passionate communities in countries around the world can translate some of the best websites and applications into their native languages," she says.

Today Yahoo! announced the integration of is Yahoo! Application Platform (YAP) with the new Yahoo! Homepage, which lets advertisers and publishers develop apps for the homepage. "In support of the Yahoo! Open Strategy, this integration offers a more customizable and personally relevant experience for over 118 million monthly homepage users across the U.S.," a Yahoo! spokesperson tells WebProNews.

About 11 months ago, Google made a big announcement about the Android Open Source Project.  The word "open" was used six times in a single official blog post.  But now, a group of developers has formed the Open Android Alliance to take things a lot further.

Google has released some new features for the Google Analytics API, including event tracking, navigational data, and increased filter length. The company says these features were prioritized based on feedback from users, with event tracking being the most requested feature.

Event tracking allows users to measure the number of user interactions with a site. You can track things like the total number of times a white paper is downloaded, the length of time it takes to load a video, the number of validation errors users get when filling out a form, etc.

MySpace has announced an open source framework for "distributed computation," which is ultimately a recommendation engine. It’s called Qizmt, and it’s the feature the social network currently uses for its "People you may Know" feature.

"Qizmt can be used for many operations that require processing large amounts of data such as collaborative filtering for recommendations and analytics," explains MySpace COO Mike Jones.

About a month ago, Facebook announced that it was acquiring FriendFeed. Today the company announced it is open sourcing Tornado, a web server framework originally developed by the FriendFeed team.

Real-time search engine Collecta announced the release of its API today, meaning developers will be able to use it to pull real-time search results directly into their applications.

Google has announced the release of a new API for building Talk bots on top of Google App Engine, Google’s product that lets developers create and host web apps on the Google infrastructure.

Google’s Android announced that it will soon introduce new features in Android Market for Android 1.6, which will improve user experience. For one, developers will be able to post screenshots and descriptions (as well as icons), to showcase their apps.
