MySpace has formed a partnership with NBC News and msnbc.com to launch Decision '08 which will be focused on election coverage and will be part of MySpace's Impact channel.
Decision'08 will feature news feeds and daily video from NBC News and msnbc.com along with user- generated content from MySpace members. It will also offer links to news anchor and reporters Brian Williams, Tim Russert and Chris Matthews.
An interesting part of the deal is that News Corp is not using subsidiary Fox News on its MySpace property. Lee Brenner, director of Impact and executive producer of political programming at MySpace told the Hollywood Reporter that the company saw "quite a bit of synergy" with MySpace and NBC. He said there was nothing out of the ordinary about MySpace not using Fox News.
"We work with companies that are in family and out of family all the time," Brenner said.
Other features of Decision '08 include online voter registration, a map with election statistics for all 50 states and videos from previous MySpace Impact events.
"The 2008 election is proving to be the most youth- and technology-driven race in history, and MySpace is a significant forum for political discussion today," said Brenner.
