LinkedIn
Hi Doug, according to Nielsen Media Research's @Plan data, LinkedIn ranks #1 for composition of users with HHI of $150K+, so it appears Dan Nye is not far off the mark.
$140k is reasonable...
The assumption that *every* person on LinkedIn has to make $140k for the total average to equal $140k is spurious, especially if you cap it off at $150k. (Even so, 11.5% of the US is a potential market of 34.6 million families).
Let's say we have 9 people using LinkedIn who earn $60k, and one person who earns $1,000,000.
That means the average income of each of the 10 people is $154,000, which is entirely reasonable, given LinkedIn's market.
And there is no reason to limit LinkedIn's potential market to just the US... there are lots of high-income earners from other countries using LinkedIn.
