The number of people watching online video through a browser has doubled over the past year, going from 32 percent a year a go to 63 percent today, according to a new ABI Research study.ABI says the growth is due to the amount of rich content available in ad-supported format on portals and via social networks, along with increasing demand from people for video in both short-and long-form online content.

Comcast has released details to U.S. regulators about how it will manage traffic on its high speed Internet network."As we previously announced in March, we are changing the way we manage network congestion by the end of this year. The new technique does not manage congestion based on the protocol or application a consumer uses," Comcast said in a statement.

Broadband Growth Declines In The Second Quarter

The number of new broadband connections in the U.S. declined in the second quarter to the lowest level in seven years according to the Leichtman Research Group.There were 887,000 new connections in the quarter among the top 20 cable and phone providers. The top broadband providers now account for 65.1 million subscribers with cable companies having 35.3 million broadband subscribers, and telephone companies having over 29.7 million subscribers.
