Companies that haven’t yet given Google TV Ads a shot should consider themselves presented with about 65 million new reasons to do so.  Google TV Ads has connected with the Game Show Network and its 65 million viewers.

To a certain degree, this move makes more sense than other advertising tie-ups.  Game shows often involve money and products that are available for purchase, after all, putting their viewers into a consumer-y frame of mind.

Court Orders Cybersquatting Company To Pay Verizon $33 Million

A federal court in the Northern District of California has upheld a December 2008 judgment which awarded Verizon $33.15 million in a cybersquatting case against OnlineNIC, an Internet domain registration company.

The case is based on OnlineNIC’s attempts to take advantage of Verizon and its customers by using names that are easily confused with legitimate Verizon names.

Time Warner Cable announced Thursday it is working with a number of networks to provide its customers with more online access to programming.

The networks involved in the upcoming trials of TV Everywhere include TBS, TNT, HBO, CBS, Syfy, BBC America, AMC, WE tv, Sundance Channel, Discovery and the Smithsonian Channel.

Last month Comcast began a similar test offering content from HBO and Cinemax online.

Content Sites More Popular Than Social Networks

The majority (53.1%) of Internet users belong to at least one social networking site, but the amount of time spent on the sites is somewhat short, compared to overall time spent online, according to a new report from Burst Media.

Among 18-34 year olds, 40 percent spend less than 30 minutes per day on sites like Facebook and MySpace. The top content categories for that demographic actively seek out entertainment news (48.6%), gaming (40.5%), local/national news (37.3%) and social media (35.5%).

Search as Navigation On the Rise

Compete has shared some interesting data indicating that web users are increasingly using search engines to simply navigate to the sites they want to visit. For example, they are typing "facebook" in Google rather than just going to facebook.com from their address bar.

Following is a look at the fastest growing search terms according to Compete, for the top five search engines. You’ll notice that this list is largely dominated by brand names.

AOL Taps Arthur Minson As CFO

AOL has named Arthur Minson as the company’s new Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Minson replaces Nisha Kumar, who left AOL earlier this summer. Minson was previously with Time Warner Cable, where he served as Executive Vice President and Deputy CFO and had a hand in helping manage that division’s separation from Time Warner. Prior to his role at Time Warner Cable, Minson led AOL’s Corporate Finance and Development activities.
