Twitter has warned its users that changing their account information may put their accounts in jeopardy, as the company has received numerous reports of people who are getting shut out of their accounts upon trying to do so.
"We’re currently researching reports from users who are locked out after trying to reset their passwords or change their email address or user name," the company says on the Twtter Status blog. "This seems to affect new users as well as long term users; we do not advise changing your user name, email address, or password at this time."
Twitter says it is aware of the following error messages:
- "Wrong user name/email and password combination”
- "Sorry, we couldn't verify that this user requested a password reset."
"Please be aware that this has been prioritized to be fixed as soon as we can! DO NOT CHANGE YOUR USERNAME - this will also lock you out of your account!" warns Twitter on the Twitter Support forum. "If you do manage get in, please try to be logged in for a couple of hours and do not use any 3rd party applications. We think this might a cache issue on our end."
Twitter is asking users to be patient as it deals with the issue, and is asking for comments on the support thread. Those who are able to log-in can also @mention @laura(Twitter's Laura Gómez) with the word "taco" so she can see if the issue is being resolved.
LOGGED IN!
I just had the same problem. I changed my password on my twitter account (not too long ago)and I couldn't log into my iPhone Tweety app. But, I FIXED this problem by changing my "changed" password back to the ORIGINAL password. I beleive that the 3rd party apps will only recognize your orignal/first password you made with Twitter. Now I'm able to log into Tweety app on my iPhone! JUST A HEADS UP! HOPE this helps.
Sooo, if you REMEMBER your orginal/first password you made with twitter, changed it back to that and you maybe able to log back into your 3rd party Twitter apps.
