Over 50 Million Facebook Users Related to Somebody

Popular Facebook Apps Reaches Milestone

If you're a Facebook user, you've almost certainly encountered the "We're Related" app in one way or another. Whether or not you have actually participated in it, you have probably at least seen an invitation.

Familylink The app is not the most popular one on Facebook, but it is certainly up there. Currently, it sits at number 4, according to FamilyLink.com, the company behind We're Related. The app has resided on the list of top ten Facebook apps for over a year.

Although We're Related is only the fourth most popular app on the social network, it has hit a milestone by surpassing 50 million users. The company attributes the app's popularity to the growing number of 35+ Facebook users.

FamilyLink.com points to a report showing that the number of US Facebook users over 35 grew significantly in the last 30 days, up by nearly 1.5 million in each of the 35-44, 45-54, and 55-65 categories.

"We had expected to reach the 50 million mark by the end of the year. Reaching that goal in 6 months is very exciting," said Jason McGowan, Chief Social Officer for FamilyLink.com, Inc. "We are excited about the growing user base and especially about the activity of the users. As the number of We're Related users grows, so does the number of connections people are making to their families, now surpassing 300 million."

With the We're Related app, users can:

- Find relatives on Facebook

- Keep up with family

- Build a family tree

- Share news and photos with family

Jason McGowan Tweet

"Facebook has always been a personal tool for managing relationships," adds McGowan. "We're Related fits that context perfectly. We are looking forward to future growth, continual innovation, and offering new functionality to our loyal users."

The We're Related app plays on one of the core reasons people start using Facebook in the first place. They want to stay connected with family and friends. The app is simply an extension of the desire to keep a strong bond amongst family members. It's not hard to see why it is popular.

I don't add my family on

I don't add my family on either facebook or myspace. They are better off not knowing how crazy I am.

RE: I don't add my family on

Being your friend on Facebook, I find that understandable :)
