See recent shots of just about everywhereIf panoramic images are important to you, stick with Street View. If timeliness and overall geographic coverage take precedence, the new Webcams.travel layer in Google Earth is definitely worth a look.
Street View, cool as it is, limits users to a rather small number of places and a set of images that were taken some time ago. With this new Google Earth layer, "Clicking on the Webcams.travel placemarks will show you an image taken within the last 15 to 60 minutes," according to Google's Philipp Hirtz.

Google Earth, Webcams.travel Get Together
Also, "This new layer . . . gives you access to almost 5,000 geo-located webcams all over the world." Just a few featured highlights include Switzerland, France, and the Czech Republic.
Google can't take all the credit (and for the record, it doesn't try to), of course, as the Webcams.travel layer was created in partnership with the Webcams.travel site. Still, this development should make Google Earth considerably more interesting.
If you don't feel like downloading Google Earth, there's also a Google Maps tool available through Webcams.travel itself.
