I think that this was a great move because it will be easier to communicate with other firms.
The online social networking site for business professionals, LinkedIn has launched the beta version of its business directory, called LinkedIn Company Profiles.
The data on company profiles is based on information from the 20 million profiles on LinkedIn along with data from its partners, CapitalIQ and BusinessWeek. Members will be able to view the profiles of more than 160,000 companies. The information on the profiles includes company description, statistics, and job listings.
To find company profiles the LinkedIN blog states, "The easiest way to access any company profile is stumbling upon it through individual profiles themselves. As you're browsing any profile, look out for a logo right next to company titles, in any individual's work history. Clicking through the highlighted company links will take you to the Company Profile directly."
"Not only will Company Profiles enable people to leverage intelligence from their LinkedIn network to learn more about companies, they will also serve as a vehicle for the companies to reach potential employees, customers, journalists, and partners," said David Hahn, Director of Product Management at LinkedIn.
LinkedIn says in the future is plans to allow companies to add custom modules such as "Employment Benefits," New Products" and other company information.
