Eric Schmidt Becoming A Media Mogul

Google will become a distributor of original content through its AdSense network, with contributions from 'Family Guy' creator Seth MacFarlane and Disney Channel star Raven-Symoné. Google's CEO will have to pack on a lot of pounds if he wants to match the physical stature of Hollywood legend Orson Welles. Schmidt already has plenty of clout thanks to Google's dominance of search and online advertising.

Something different will come to AdSense blocks in the near future. Both MacFarlane and Raven will produce video content destined for distribution across Google's AdSense network of sites. Publishers sign up for AdSense and place ad blocks on their sites, and share revenue from those ads with Google.

Hollywood Reporter said the deal, brokered by Media Rights Capital, will feature new animated videos from MacFarlane, and a "How To" series with Raven. Google plans to distribute these with banner ads and in-stream advertising included.

"This combination allows for the creation of original content that was historically too expensive to produce for Internet distribution and connects advertisers with high-quality content," Kim Malone, director of online sales and operations at Google AdSense, said in the report.

Both MacFarlane and Raven get full creative control of the content they make, along with partnership stakes in the deal. Hollywood Reporter said the two attract the 18-35 male and the teen & tween demographics, both of which advertisers heavily covet.
