“The ramping of our traffic is a significant milestone that was dependent upon the addition of targeted advertising for our UK users,” stated Bruce Crair, Local.com’s president and COO, in the release. “The UK is an important market for Local.com and growth in this area is a key part of Local.com’s overall strategy.”
Don’t let anything confuse you into thinking that Google’s in danger, however - even after that amazing (percentage) increase, Local.com only received around 800,000 visitors in July of this year. So it still has a ways to go, to say the least.
Nonetheless, this represents a vast improvement over Local.com’s previous fortunes in the UK. And even in the US, the company’s had a rather odd time of it lately. Just in the past month, it scored a search patent and saw its stock rise. Then Hearst Corp. sold a portion of its stake in the company, and Local.com went on to acquire PremierGuide and sell some of its own shares for cash. Whew.

Now, as to where the company will go from here - in terms of growth, it looks COO Crair is planning more of the same. “Now that the monetization component of our UK strategy is in place, we can move our attention to building share in this valuable market,” he said.
