Google is all about protecting the environment, and, for a long time, rumors have suggested that the company is working on a personal PC. Now the search engine giant has registered ClimateSaverPC.com, and the act has set everyone all aflutter.
Google actually grabbed both ClimateSaverPC.com and ClimateSaverPC.org. Urs Hoelzle, the search engine company’s Senior Vice President of Operations and Engineering, registered ClimateSaverPC.us, and in an email to Nicholas Carr, he explained the buying binge.
“You only have the partial story,” Hoelze began. “[G]ranted, a full-fledged PC for $10 will make headlines, even without the Google OS on it, but the true story is the built-in source of cheap and infinite energy in this puppy, a breakthrough technology that allows the PC to be entirely self-powered for an unlimited duration as long as the user clicks on some discreetly placed, highly relevant text ads.”
Then Hoelzle inserted a smiley face and gave the company line, “We have many PC partners who serve their customers exceedingly well and we see no need to enter that market.”
So it seems that the ClimateSaverPC purchases will remain shrouded in mystery (and humor) for the time being. But credit for spotting them nonetheless goes to the good people of Resource Shelf, and, as a car guy, I have to note that Google also snatched up car-google.com.
