Ryan Lawler at NewTeeVee points to a Bloomberg interview with HBO co-president Eric Kessler, who mentioned plans to make HBO on-demand content available on more devices like the iPad, but not for Netflix streaming, because its loyalties are with cable companies. Speculation about Hulu’s subscription service is beginning to feel never-ending; inaccurate rumors concerning the date of its arrival and other details have been circulating for far too long.  But one new report indicates that a beta test of the subscription service might finally begin next week, and another hints that a deal with PlayStation is in the making.

In a speech to the graduating class today at Hampton University in Virginia Obama said this:

Sony has plans to launch a new online service next year that will allow users to download music and movies to their televisions.

"I’d like it to get off the ground as quickly as possible," said Kazuo Hirai, executive vice president of Sony and head of its Networked Products & Service Group, in an interview at the company’s Tokyo headquarters. "Earlier in the year is more preferable."

Market research firm NPD is reporting that U.S. sales of video game hardware and software increased 73 percent in October.

Total sales reached $1.1 billion, compared with $643 million a year earlier. The Nintendo Wii console moved back into the top spot as the best selling console. Nintendo sold 519,000 Wiis, Microsoft sold 366,000 Xbox 360 consoles and Sony sold 121,000 of its PlayStation 3 consoles.

Okay first, let’s establish two things as public service announcements: Don’t pay $200 for a PlayStation 2; if you stumble over almost 100 grand, don’t tell anybody about it, especially not the government.
