Hulu has a new captions search feature available via Hulu Labs. The feature allows Hulu users to search the captions of videos across hundreds of different shows. Show and video pages now have a "Captions" tab, and search can be found there.

Hulu Adds New Options to the Queue

Popular online video destination Hulu has added a new default view for the user’s queue. The new view groups all videos within the queue by show. In the past, users could only sort everything by show by clicking on the title and information column.

"As we’ve added more content and as users’ queues have grown in size, grouping by show as a default was a logical update," says Eugene Wei VP, Product at Hulu.

The latest numbers regarding online video viewing are in from Nielsen, and they reveal some interesting trends.  In effect, things are looking good on a year-over-year basis, but stacked up against October, November didn’t go so well.

YouTube May Expand Into TV Show Biz

It’s no secret that YouTube’s trying to catch up to Hulu in terms of offering premium content; the site’s administrators often make a big deal out of movie and TV show additions.  What is under wraps – or at least hasn’t been publicized in press releases and blog posts – is that YouTube might also be interested in charging for access.

Hulu Makes More Search Improvements

Popular online video site Hulu has made some new improvements to its search interface. They have added a new Advanced Search feature, which offers the user additional search filters than were previously available.

With Advanced Search, users can search by a keyword or phrase (use quotes to set off a phrase), search within specific fields (such as show title, video title, etc.), or use common search operators like "and," "or," and "not."

Hulu is Seeing Record Numbers

comScore Video Metrix has released its monthly look at the performance of online video content properties. As usual, Google sites dominate the picture, largely because of YouTube, which gets 99% of Google’s video views.

The real story, however, is that Hulu is achieving record numbers. The site ranked number 2 (though significantly behind Google with 3.1% market share compared to Google’s 37.7) during the month of October, with an all time high of 856 million videos viewed.

National Dog Show Available Online At Hulu

NBC said today "The National Dog Presented by Purina" will be available online Thanksgiving Day (Noon – 2 p.m. in all time zones) at NBCSports.com.

The television broadcast will also be available online after 2 p.m. ET on Hulu.

To complement the TV special and showcase all the breeds, NBCSports.com will feature video of the walks, examination and judging of all the breed-winning dogs with commentary from announce Wayne Ferguson, President of the host Kennel Club of Philadelphia.

Vevo Gets Official Launch Date

Vevo, the highly anticipated music video site from YouTube, Universal, and Sony, now has an official release date. Vevo was previously announced to be launching in December, but now the date of December 8th has been set.

Vevo is striving to be the Hulu for music videos. Watch this guy talking about the launch party (not the woman pictured):

Hulu Gets Feet Wet in the Music Video Pool

Hulu and record label EMI have struck a deal, which will give the video content site some music videos, one area in which the site has lacked. Hulu fans shouldn’t get too excited about the site becoming a big music video destination just yet though.

The deal, according to the New York Times, is to give artists Norah Jones her own channel (which is already live), and over time, add more EMI artists. The Norah Jones channel has all of her music videos, concert footage, and interviews.

Recently, at the B&C OnScreen Summit, News Corp’s Deputy Chairman, Chase Carey, revealed that Hulu will begin charging users to view their content in 2010. "It’s time to start getting paid for broadcast content online", Carey said.

Hulu Adds “Coming Soon” Page

Catching episodes of your favorite show(s) on Hulu just became a little easier.  The site’s introduced a "Coming Soon" page so that early bird users can figure out when the stuff they want to see will actually become available.

One might argue that this is a very minor feature – essentially a redundant online TV guide, given that most Hulu users know episodes become available the day after they air.  Still, even if that’s the case, it should prove handy for folks who are new to the site.

Online video viewing reached another record in September, driven largely by TV season premieres, according to the latest report from comScore.

More than 168 million U.S. Internet users watched online video during the month. Nearly 26 billion videos were viewed in September, as Google sites accounted for more than 40 percent of videos viewed online by Americans.

Google sites continued to rank as the top U.S. video property in September with nearly 10.5 billion videos viewed. YouTube accounted for 99 percent of all videos viewed at Google properties.
