Online Shoppers Missing Out On Coupon Savings

The majority of online shoppers who use coupons are missing out on savings by using invalid or expired coupons, according to a new report commissioned by Coupon Craze and conducted by Harris Interactive.

The majority (94%) of online shoppers have had an expired or invalid coupon code but more than half (57%) have continued with their purchase despite not being able to use the coupon.

According to comScore, over 63 million people in the US use the mobile Internet, with 35% of those people accessing it on a daily basis. eMarketer says that over 70 million US mobile phone users will access the Internet from their device in 2009.

eMarketer also says that mobile e-commerce is still in its infancy though. While some retailers are ahead of the game, many are still "watching from the sidelines," and planning their mobile commerce strategies.

The Top 50 Websites in the US

Compete puts together a monthly ranking of the top 250 Web sites in the US, based on unique visitors, and breaks up the data by relevant categories and behavioral segments. In its latest report, Compete found that the top performers for July fell into four main categories: auto manufacturers that were part of the "Cash for Clunkers" deal, summer blockbuster movie sites, back-to-school shopping sites and social media news aggregates (like Digg or Tweetmeme).

eBay Launches App Directory for Sellers

eBay has announced Selling Manager Applications, a directory of apps for eBay sellers to use to improve their customer service, streamline shipping, and make their businesses more efficient.

Sellers can use these apps if they are subscribed to Selling Manager or Selling Manager Pro. Regular Selling Manager is free. Any apps the seller subscribes to will appear under the Applications tab in their version of Selling Manager.

eCommerce Sales Down From Last Year

comScore has released its Q2 retail eComerce sales estimates, which indicate that US online retail spending totaled $30.2 billion, which is 1% less than the same period last year. This is only the 2nd time eCommerce spending has been lower for the same quarter than the previous year.

The AJC says there are about 50 titles available on Amazon.de that question the Holocaust and promote Nazis.

PayPal announced that it is opening an API to developers to allow them to embed PayPal’s payment system into their own apps and platforms. The company, a subsidiary of eBay, says this is the first global payment platform to open to third-party developers.
